Former Governors In APC Set To Tackle Tinubu, Say Constitution Has No Place For National Leader

Former governors in the All Progressives Congress (APC) have called for the restructuring of the party along the line of legacy parties, Vanguard reports.

The former governors were said to have noted that the current crisis in the party was being stoked by a few from the South-West. They therefore allegedly plan to question Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s role as national leader based on claims that there is no provision for such in the constitution.

Members of the group were said to have vowed that, should Tinubu, who many regard as the brain behind the party’s success at the polls, be allowed into the APC’s National Executive Council meeting hall, they would also insist on attending the meeting. They have therefore decided to gather at the party’s national secretariat in anticipation of Tinubu’s entry.

The Northern elements and chieftains of the party believed to be sponsored by former vice president Atiku Abubakar, were said to be angry that the South West was causing discord in the party. Atiku has been accused of wanting to hijack the APC.

The chieftains warned that the crisis in the party arising from the election of principal officers of the National Assembly, “was gradually becoming a distraction to the party and could stall its manifesto of change.”
