Gone are the days when we had only landlines and so when we’re at work, we know our calls are always professional therefore we give our best behaviour.
Mobile phones have changed things and we can be called at any time, meaning we have to always put on our best anytime we receive a call, especially unsaved numbers.
1. Reply With Your Name If It’s A Strange Number
It is a different thing when you have the number of the person stored on your phone, at least you know who is calling and you can decide to be formal or informal. However, if it’s a strange number and TrueCaller couldn’t help you out, it will be advisable to greet and respond with your name till you find out who is really calling. Example, “Good [insert time of the day here] Paa Kwasi Speaking”. Don’t say, “Who This?”
2. Do Not Call Mobile Phones More Than 2 Times
It is impolite to keep calling somebody when they don’t pick twice in a roll. There could be a lot of reasons why they are not picking and so when you call twice without response, it will be advisable to stop calling till they get back to you. If you have to call back after some time, please wait for at least 30 minutes to an hour. Don’t call them so many times rapidly unless it’s an emergency.
3. Return Missed Calls
It is impolite to leave your missed calls unanswered. When you realise you have missed calls on your phone, it will be advisable to return the calls unless it is a number you don’t want to have anything to do with and in that case, you have the “Block Number” feature to use. People call for various reasons and it’ll feel disrespectful if they call you without response and you don’t call back.
4. Text Your Caller If You’re Busy
These days, most mobile phones have default messages you can send to a caller when you’re busy. It is advisable to quickly send an “I’m busy” text to the caller when you know you can’t get to the phone or if you’re in a meeting. Don’t just leave them hanging without any message or information as to your status at that particular time.
5. Introduce Yourself When You Call Strange Numbers
If someone hands over a number to you to call, the person on the other end does not know you so don’t make it seem like he’s your buddy, it is always advisable to greet and mention your name when you call such people before you proceed with your mission or what you have to say.
6. Put Your Phone On Vibration or Silent During Meetings
It is rude, disrespectful and interruptive to have your phone ringing in the middle of a meeting. Always put it on vibration or silent when in a meeting till the meeting is over or better still, you can put it in airplane mode to prevent any calls from coming in. When you’re done, you can revert to your initial settings.
7. Don’t Pick Other People’s Calls For Them
These days because of mobile phones, friends, relatives, parents, siblings, boyfriends and girlfriends don’t see how impolite it is to pick calls meant for others. Gone are the days, when the phone was for the whole family, these days, it has become personal phones so it is absolutely rude to pick calls meant for the owner of the phone when they are not around unless they grant you the permission.
8. Don’t Try Going Through Someone’s Phone
It is absolutely rude and uncultured to even try going through somebody’s personal phone. The worst is when there’s a password on it and you try to get pass it and you keep trying till the phone locks completely and the person has to go through the pain of reverting to factory settings and losing all their data. If it’s not your phone, leave it alone, you’re not Anas.
Mobile Phones have become a part of the life of Ghanaians but do you know how phones are affecting us?
